ICD-10 Frequently Asked Questions
About ICD-10
What is ICD-10?

It is the 10th revision of ICD, which contains codes for diseases, signs and symptoms, abnormal findings, complaints, social circumstances, and external causes of injury or diseases.

How is ICD-10 different from ICD-9?

ICD-10 has more complex codes than ICD-9, which makes it difficult for coders to rely on their memory to use the correct codes. There are 68,000 diagnosis codes in ICD-10 as compared to 14,000 in ICD-9.

Will ICD-10 have new codes for procedures coding?

No. The transition from ICD-9 to ICD-10 does not change CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) coding.

CureMD & ICD-10
What happens if a provider does not switch to ICD-10 coding?

Claims that do not have ICD-10 coding on or after the compliance deadline, October 1, 2015, will not be processed. Increase
in claim denials will have an adverse impact on your practice revenue.

Is CureMD ready for ICD-10?

Yes. CureMD’s EHR has been ICD-10 ready since 2014. We have been testing with numerous payers and clearing houses to
check their readiness.

Does CureMD software offer dual coding?

CureMD shows both ICD-9 and ICD-10 codes in its EHR, which enables providers to practice coding during the transition period; particularly for internal and external testing.

Will CureMD provide ICD-10 training on its software?

Our ICD-10 experts will provide you comprehensive training to prepare your staff to meet ICD-10 challenges.

Does CureMD offer support during and after ICD-10 compliance?
