CureMD’s CIO testifies to ONC HIT Adaption / Certification Workgroup
Washington, DC - April 21, 2011 - “Usability Testing, Common User Interface, Standardized Health Pathways and Paper to Digital Conversation Framework is the need of the hour” said Bill Hashmat, CIO and Co-Founder at CureMD, as he testified to the Certification/Adoption Work Group HIT Standards Committee of The Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT in Washington, DC today.
Mr. Hashmat’s testimony attempted to construct a proactive agenda for the development of HIT systems such as EHRs.
“Knowing that efficient information delivery is the key to reaping maximum benefits from decade-long investments in developing, standardizing, adapting and interconnecting lifesaving information. United States brings cutting edge technology to the world and as we lead towards wide spread adoption and we must invest in not just effective, but safe information provision through following efforts:
- Mandated usability testing programs for EMR's
- A Common user interface for EMR's
- Standardized health pathways / treatment plans
- Early intervention alerting system
- Paper to digital conversation frame work
Cumbersome system design remains the biggest threat to The ARRA investments, making usability a key focus of the certification program from ONC will ensure that our efforts and investments bring the promised results.”
Mr. Hashmat’s testimony also addressed questions on current industry practices in testing and system design to tackle usability challenges. Moreover, it focused on voluntary steps that the industry can take to improve usability and what the industry sees as the government’s role in the process.
